Neighbors Swap Homes After Wrong-Address Discovery

Chester Guettche and W. V. Swan, long time neighbors in Hutchinson, learned they had occupied each other’s houses by mistaken ownership. Swan had lived in the larger house at 724 East Sixth while paying the higher tax, and Guettche resided at 722 East Sixth. Abstracts mis filed in the Van Emans estate caused the mix up. After confirming the facts the pair agreed to swap houses, with Guettche assuming the mortgage on his new home.

Hiawatha Incorporation Vote Cleared For Town Status

Hiawatha near Cedar Rapids voted 51 for incorporation with no against in a Friday election. The move follows an amended petition excluding objectors land and sets the next step as town officer elections in about two weeks. Hiawatha will be Linn county’s seventeenth incorporated town, following Fairfax in 1936.
