Hillman Promoted Strike Tied to Boeing Labor Conflict
Harvey Brown, president of the AFL International Association of Machinists, testified before a Senate defense committee that Sidney Hillman promoted the Vultee aircraft strike last fall and failed to block a movement seeking communist domination of workers at Boeing’s Seattle factory. AFL–CIO President William Green opposed expulsion of the machinists union, which has $500 million in ship contracts tied up in San Francisco Bay area yards, urging persuasion to end the strike.
