Doubts NazIs Channel Gains Peril England
Distinguished military critic J. W. T. Mason argues in United Press that German occupation of Boulogne and nearby Channel coast centers offers little value for an assault on Britain. He describes Allied and German positions as a pipe shape with the Allies guarding the outer bowl and the Germans pushing small mechanized forces along the coast toward Boulogne and Calais. He says Channel ports Zeebrugge Ostend Nieuport and Dunkerque remain Allied and stresses the need to prevent German breakout from the pipe while using English reinforcements through limited rail access to Calais and Boulogne. The objective is to hold Germany within the pipe and deny expansion of Channel positions.
