Jobs Tax Measure Passes House

The measure would raise $220 million via a higher gasoline tax and a levy on corporate dividends while preserving exemptions. It would add about $500 million in nuisance taxes over three years to back a federal budget and debt plan. President Roosevelt could repeal levies if other revenue sources are found. Labor reports optimistic on employment. AFL chief cites 12.73 million unemployed in May and a gain in April. Approval also funds road projects and shifts the electrical energy tax from consumer to producer.
