Des Moines apartment fire kills three and displaces dozens
A Des Moines blaze at the Eddy building on Polk Boulevard killed three residents and left more than 60 displaced. Firefighters rescued about 10 occupants. two injuries to firefighters were reported. Authorities investigate the cause as residents faced extensive damage and inspections in the past.

Juvenile shoots self with felon’s gun in Iowa City
A juvenile suffered a leg wound on May 3 after finding a hidden semi-automatic handgun at 886 Hudson Ave. The gun belonged to Edmund D. Green, 40, who admitted ownership.
