Tap Iowa’s buying power could create thousands of jobs
The Gazette finds Iowa manufacturers buy 80 percent of materials from out of state, totaling 1.35 billion dollars from non Iowa vendors. If 10 percent of that outflow returned to Iowa suppliers, about 8,000 new jobs could be created and up to 100,000 jobs under broader assumptions. Local officials urge expanding the Iowa Directory of Manufacturers to boost in state sourcing.
