Union members of three St Louis newspapers approve a 7.50 weekly raise after extended talks. International rep Charles S Bond says the accord ends threatened actions and a decade of recriminations and wildcat stoppages. Early talks sought 11.50 more.
Three American Military Government officials confined for over two weeks by Brig. Gen. Muller demanded release or arrest with charges. They surrendered passports and IDs, barred from leaving the compound, surrounded by barbed wire, and denied telephones. All were suspended without pay. Norman Chernick of Chicago led denazification investigations. Paul Bergman of Forest Hills, New York, served as a field investigator.
A trio including Richard E. Dunsmore and Bergman claim removal by guards and lack of charges while under arrest during a military government clampdown. They report being denied access to officials and allege constitutional rights violations as inquiries into car and ration movements continue.
