Epilogue: Jazz Mentor Paul Smoker Dies at 75
Paul Smoker, renowned jazz mentor and musician who taught at Coe College and the University of Iowa, died May 14 at his home near Rochester New York at age 75. He recorded more than 50 songs and mentored hundreds of students. Smoker grew up in Davenport and was devoted to jazz and his trumpet, according to his wife Beverly Smoker.
