Hoffa's Son Defeated for Legislature
James P. Hoffa, 26, candidate in a special Michigan House election, lost by 158 votes to Anthony Licata. Licata, 48, benefited from Gov. George Romney's reforms and GOP support including a Kennedy endorsement. The race filled the seat of the late Joseph Kowalski, with 11,500 turnout and a 5964 to 5706 unofficial count. Hoffa credited the loss to a tough battle and did not fully capitalize on his name while his father remains imprisoned.
