A Johnson County jury awarded Sally Schrock of Parnell $4,215.40 in a suit against Kalona farmer Henry Hochstedler for cattle on Cheese Factory Road that caused a crash on January 28, 1980. Schrock claimed negligence for leaving the gate open. her two children were passengers. The plaintiffs had sought $107,500 in damages.
Linn County holds several meetings today including the Review Board at the assessor's office at 9 30 a m and the Supervisors at 10 a m in the Administrative Office Building. The Zoning Board meets at 1 30 p m and the Conservation Board at 5 30 p m at Squaw Creek Park lodge. Ely and Mount Vernon city councils meet in the evening with a Mount Vernon session at 7 30 p m involving a public hearing on a 200000 general obligation bond for a new water tower. PRIDE sponsors Mike Gilbert of the Iowa Highway Patrol at 7 p m at Washington High School to discuss drinking and driving. families in Harding Franklin and McKinley districts invited.
Olin Consolidated School marked the last class day as 29 seniors graduated on May 13. The board discussed junior-senior banquet and prom formats, energy conservation, repairs, and a summer reading program, with actions tabled and June decisions planned. Willian Andresen of Tipton was hired to review district needs. a used van purchase was deferred.
