How British and U S Electoral Systems Differ
Britons vote in a parliamentary system with the prime minister chosen by the party in power. The house of Lords is unelected and has limited power. Members may win seats in different constituencies, and candidates need not reside in their district. Voters directly elect MPs including the prime minister. The United States uses an indirect presidential system and a fixed four year term.
