Hydrant rule hampers Eastern Iowa fire response

Lisbon firefighters faced delays at the Wilkin Elevator blaze on May 10 as a decades old water design standard blocked connections to 4 inch hydrants. With two 4 inch outlets nearby, the rule raised concerns about water pressure and contamination while a 60 fire crew battled the grain elevator fire. No injuries were reported though the milling area and log receiving were destroyed.
