Letter writer Lyle Covington of Covington Iowa questions the Postville raid findings accusing Jewish employers and Mexican workers of fueling tensions. He urges severe penalties for firms hiring illegals and argues for selective immigration thresholds while citing Agriprocessors and Swift & Co. as examples.
A reader argues raids target workers not employers and promotes the fair tax as a solution. The letter questions accountability for employers, calls for broader immigration reform, and contends a larger tax base could reduce individual taxes while ensuring all residents, legal or illegal, pay toward government funding.
A reader argues for workers' permits to safely employ immigrants while tightening border controls. The letter critiques the Postville raid and accuses Agriprocessors of abuses, calls for humane treatment, and questions costs to taxpayers and local hiring practices in Iowa.
A May 10 letter defends a religious elite group and its grand wizard Darwin, misrepresenting his origins claim. The writer alleges peer review bias against intelligent design and cites Dr. Guillermo Gonzales’s denied tenure as evidence. Kephart argues science suppresses data favoring a first cause.
