Prosecution urges conviction in 1963 Birmingham church bombing
Prosecutors urged jurors to convict 71 year old Bob Cherry of murder for the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church bombing that killed four black girls in 1963. They described the attack as the era’s deadliest act of hate as the defense conceded Cherry’s racist views while urging acquittal on largely circumstantial evidence. The trial nears its close with Cherry the last suspect in the case.
