Iowa climber Chuck Huss and team reached Camp 3 on Lhotse at 23 500 feet after a 21 000 to 23 500 foot climb from Camp 2. Base camp manager Ben Caskey said Huss is in strong shape despite fatigue as weather remains the main concern for the Everest Environmental Expedition 2000.
Sherpa guide Babu Chhiri, 34, climbed from base camp to Everest summit in 15 hours 56 minutes, breaking the previous record of 20 hours 24 minutes. His brother Dawa waited at the summit as Chhiri, who has climbed Everest nine times, conquered the peak without oxygen. Dr. Mark Rubin led the first trial against colon cancer, yielding an 80 percent tumor shrinkage when paired with Camptosar.
