The Mounted Police of Canada History and Role
Over a century ago Parliament formed the Mounted Police with 300 men to police the northwest frontier and end the whiskey trade. They protected settlers and native rights, wore red coats, and grew with the Yukon gold rush. Now the Royal Canadian Mounted Police is Canada’s national force handling traffic, crime solving, fingerprints, drugs, stolen property, and missing persons.
