Saigon AP reports 430 Americans killed and 2,185 wounded last week, the second highest toll of the year and the peak since March, with totals since Jan 1, 1961 reaching 35,265 killed and 225,710 wounded. Heaviest action centered northwest of Saigon and south of Da Nang, including Dong Ap Bia fighting.
The United States Ambassador Henry Cabot Lodge condemned North Vietnam for refusing to supply prisoner of war lists and to allow family contact, calling it a humanitarian failing that could affect peace talks. He contrasted Nixon’s plan with the Viet Cong proposal and urged moving to detailed negotiations on grounds where common purpose exists.

Norman Baker, a New Rochelle sailor, joins as navigator and doubts a steering rudder. Tugboats will push Ra from Safi harbor before she faces the open ocean.
Judge Herbert Walker formally sentenced Sirhan Sirhan to death in the California gas chamber for the assassination of Senator Robert Kennedy. He ignored a clemency plea from Edward Kennedy and denied motions for a new trial after a daylong hearing.
