Johnson County AARP chapter led by Eve Casser ly aims to load a semi trailer with more than 25 000 pounds of food during Older Americans Month. The drive, a collaboration with the Crisis Center and county officials, runs across 120 businesses with collection posts at Hy Vee stores. Final tallies will be weighed at City Carton this week.

Tama County to appoint successor to Auditor John Adams
Tama County supervisors will fill the vacancy created by Auditor John Adams resignation set for July 7 to join Linn County as tax manager. Adams, 55, will depart after the June 6 primary election and the appointment is planned for June 27 with the November election to fill the post. Adams has held the 53 011 dollar yearly job for 21 1/2 years. He starts the second week of July. Keokuk appoints port authority to foster business. Mayor David Gudgel says the authority will be the first in Iowa and aims to create jobs with a six member board including Gudgel and Al Zastrow. The authority lacks power of eminent domain and would supervise its own property or city-shared ventures.

Davenport man guilty of wire fraud in computer case
Jayson Harris, 23, of Davenport, pleaded guilty to wire fraud and related activity tied to access devices. He received one year nine months in prison after admitting a scheme from January 2003 to June 2004 to obtain credit card numbers by a bogus MSN site and email requests. Microsoft traced the data to Harris.
