Senate candidate backs Medicare plan for aged
E B Smith of Ames the Democratic candidate for the U S Senate told a Sioux City rally that medical doctors would be thankful for the Kennedy administration proposed hospital insurance for the aged under social security. He argued it would ease doctor bill payments and reduce private insurance costs by relieving high risk older people. He said doctors oppose the King Anderson bill because of fears of federal control but hospital insurance would prevent such outcomes and help expand private coverage. The AMA supports Kerr Smith act and should back related programs to improve elderly care.
