Hoover Sets Policy Views for Editors in La Grange
Former President Herbert Hoover addressed 125 small town editors from Illinois Wisconsin and Indiana outlining choices for voluntary versus compulsory cooperation with government. He avoided direct quotation but agreed to publish his views. Hoover argued for limited farm interference a home market for farmers and warned democracy declines as dictators rise amid economic depression. He said the US should back words with arms to defend democracy and saw no immediate war threat in Europe focusing on preserving liberties at home.
