New cancer drug Iressa shows tumor shrinkage in trials
AstraZeneca funded study presented at ASCO shows Iressa shrinking tumors in 12 percent of patients at a lower dose and improving symptoms in 43 percent. European and Japanese trials report 19 percent response and 39 percent symptom relief. researchers see potential for early use to ease lung cancer symptoms. Long-term survival effects are still unproven.
