Pendleton urges reparations as alternative to affirmative action
Clarence M. Pendleton Jr the Civil Rights Commission chairwoman black leaders sparred last week at a Los Angeles news conference accusing affirmative action of seeking equality of result. He suggested blacks petition Congress for reparations paid to all blacks instead of adjusting civil rights laws. NAACP leader Raymond L. Johnson Jr denounced the idea calling it rhetoric and noted discrimination history. Johnson added blacks have faced two centuries of bias and will need decades more to overcome it.
