State agency flawed in Tietz custody hearing
Cedar Rapids Iowa Department of Social Services drew sharp criticism at a custody hearing for Adam Ray Tietz as questions linger over family reunification. Judge Brent Harstad continued the case to June 8 with Catholic Charities to supply history and recommendations while four of five attorneys derided the Social Services plan for lack of alternatives and clarity. Adam, age two, remains in foster care as the case proceeds amid murder charges against Robert J. Elmore and ongoing evaluation.
