Chinese Capture Port of Foochow
CHUNGKING AP Chinese troops reoccupied the strategic east coast port of Foochow, with signs the Japanese withdrew or pulled back along the coast toward Shanghai. Reports also suggested Wenchow might retreat toward Hongkong, while Amoy and Swatow prepare to move south. Ports are exposed to bombing from Philippine bases and largely cut off from Japan and Formosa. Japanese garrisons, few thousand each, have limited offensive power and would face annihilation if landings occur.
