Doughnut dispute sparks fatal shooting trial in Cedar Rapids
Derrick Roberts is on trial in Linn County District Court on charges of attempted murder and related offenses after a 50-year-old woman, Delores Smith, was critically wounded when he shot at a van containing her and others. Prosecution says a doughnut insult outside a mission triggered the attack. defense says Roberts fired in fear during a confrontation with Louie Allen outside the Mission of Hope. Testimony set for 9 a.m. today.
