Manhole Negligence Lawsuit Hits Wadena City

Bernard Chapman of Wadena sues the city and foreman Harry Proberty for 500000 dollars after stepping into an uncovered manhole during sewer work in November 1976. His wife Julia seeks 10000 dollars for loss of companionship. The case filed in Fayette County District Court accuses negligent site maintenance.

South Winneshiek schools head resigns amid board dispute

CALMAR The South Winneshiek Community School superintendent Loren Englund has resigned effective June 30 after a dismissals attempt by the board. The board approved an $8,500 consulting retainer for Englund to assist the incoming superintendent. A March 29 vote to terminate Englund was challenged by him as improperly noticed. An adjudicator later ruled the notice was insufficient.
