Regents warn universities of more cuts in Iowa
State Board of Regents Executive Director Gregory Nichols told the University of Iowa Iowa State University and the University of Northern Iowa to expect an additional 4 percent reduction in state general fund appropriations for the budget year starting July 1. The cut on top of $82 million already absorbed this year could total $9.4 million more for the UI and its peers, as Mary Sue Coleman noted staffing reductions and higher use of agency nurses strain finances amid rising outpatient demand.
