Marion Heritage Centre’s uncertain future prompts grant hold

Assurance centers on returning grant funds if the Heritage Centre is no longer used or owned by the Marion Historical Museum group. Both bodies moved to withhold this year’s grant if a governing letter is not received. The centre, built in 1855 as a Methodist church, later housed a Baptist church YMCA and a NAPA store. It is planned as a sister facility to the Granger House, both run by Marion Historical Museum Inc. Recent sale of the building to Bernie Cooper and lease to the organization with no donation clause sparked resignations by the Granger House director and two thirds of the museum boards amid the dispute.
