Coexistence and Cardin al Nest at 5023 Rich Mar Lane NW

The Hansons at 5023 Rich Mar Lane NW host birds in a hanging flower basket. A robin family nested in 1974 and this year a male cardinal built a nest in the same basket. Eggs appeared by Easter and three chicks hatched by May 3. A robin family settled nearby. The family adjusted routines to avoid disturbing the birds. A photo captured a cardinal taking its first flight, while one chick appeared to die. Mrs. Hanson left the old nest in place.
