Health Department questioned on housing repairs in Cedar Rapids
Linn County Health Director Al Ahern told residents from four east side Cedar Rapids neighborhoods that the department responds to all formal complaints though results vary. The meeting at St Pauls United Methodist drew about 40 attendees and highlighted dilapidated homes trash and abandoned vehicles and rodent problems across listed addresses in the area.

Hiawatha City Council preliminarily approved a 44 unit elderly housing project known as Hiawatha Elderly Housing. Cedar Falls developer Larry Hill sought a $1.38 million HUD loan to build the three story complex south of Sunset Lane near Robins Road and Highway 150. The building would include all one bedroom units with an elevator a horseshoe court and garden area. Estimated rent was about $400 a month.

LeFebure Implements Four Day Post Memorial Layoff
About 430 production workers at Le Febure Corp in Cedar Rapids will be laid off for four days after Memorial Day as a temporary production adjustment. Full production resumes June 4. The firm employs around 1,300 people.
