DETROIT. The CIO United Auto Workers are weighing a guaranteed annual wage drive. Experts say Ford is the likely strike target, not GM, due to smaller payroll impact and Ford’s postwar reorganization. If a strike occurs it could be lengthy and costly for Ford and the union.
Campbell named publisher of the Chicago Tribune after the death of Col. Robert R. McCormick. F M Flynn becomes publisher of the New York News. Directors elected two new vice presidents and three new directors including Arthur A. Schman and Flynn. Brown’s jigtime supper recipe included.
President Eisenhower endorsed most of the Senate amendments to the reciprocal trade act but objected to a provision by Morse and Magnuson granting cherry growers a hearing for tariff relief. House leaders criticized the Senate version as more restrictive, while conferees prepare to meet.
The court has appointed Ernest A. Erene as administrator of the estate of a late Linn County Iowa resident. All persons indebted to the estate should pay promptly to the undersigned and all claims must be filed with the administrator authenticated in Linn County Iowa. Dr. George Beadle and Nobel laureate Muller warn that radioactive fallout from atomic tests could cause about 80,000 hereditary changes among future U.S. generations. Beadle says continued testing risks two roentgens per person by reproduction, with permanent hereditary damage.
