Cedar Rapids to Demolish Iconic Kirkwood Standpipe
The city plans to tear down the 1976 Kirkwood Standpipe in south Cedar Rapids this fall and replace it with a taller higher capacity tower. Demolition slated for Oct to Nov 2016 with construction in 2017 and 2018 to improve water pressure and fire protection for Kirkwood area customers east of Kirkwood Boulevard.
