Mount Vernon mural turns wall into shared community canvas
Mount Vernon native Strider Patton led a $13,500 project with the Mount Vernon Area Arts Council to transform a 240 by 11 foot retaining wall in Uptown into a six-scene mural. He hosted workshops and gathered hundreds of sketches from residents as part of a citywide Chalk the Walk unveiling.

Fire destroys Iowa City home on Ridgeway Drive
A Sunday morning blaze at 2014 Ridgeway Dr. in Iowa City caused about 250000 dollars in damage to a residence. Fourteen firefighters arrived to find heavy basement flames and extinguished the fire in roughly 30 minutes. Occupants escaped unharmed. Cause under investigation.

Missouri man seriously injured in Cedar Rapids lawn tractor rollover
Joseph Hughes, 61, of Macon, Missouri, suffered life threatening injuries when a lawn tractor rolled over on a steep embankment in Cedar Rapids. He was mowing in the 4000 block of Lincoln Heights Drive SE and flown to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics by Life-Guard Air Ambulance.
