Laura Bush called for global education to prevent terror and praised teaching children to value life. In Paris she condemned Palestinian suicide bombers and those who incite them, while urging empathy for both sides and a return to peace talks.
Israeli forces raided four West Bank villages killing two Palestinian intelligence officers and detaining 15 militants. Prime Minister Ariel Sharon told the Knesset that peace talks will not resume until terrorism ends and Palestinian leadership reforms are in place. He warned there would be no sanctuary for terrorists and defended ongoing incursions as necessary.
The United Nations Security Council approved revised Iraq sanctions to speed food and medicine delivery and curb military diversion. The six month extension to November 30 expands the oil for food program to include public services while enforcing a 332 page checklist to screen civilian goods with potential military use. Iraq denounces the measures as the West withholds crucial humanitarian aid.
