The United States Air Force revealed a new air academy near Colorado Springs with a modern design using aluminum stainless steel and glass. Air Secretary Harold Talbott presented the architectural concepts prepared by Chicago designers.
Skidmore Owings and Merrill and Lt Gen Harmon brief six senators and over 100 newsmen at the Fine Arts Center Colorado Springs on a 126 million dollar academy. Owings describes a timeless design integrated into the Rampart range mesa with 2,496 cadets and a planned town for staff. Initial construction to begin in June with cadets moving to the permanent site by fall 1957 from Lowry Denver.
U S intelligence reports indicate Russia leads in some supersonic fighters and intercontinental bombers. Moscow is credited with several thousand MiG-17s versus under 200 F-100s produced in the United States.
Bert Bach arach reports a nationwide Father’s Day contest by the National Father’s Day Committee. Edward J. Bartels of Dyersville Iowa and another father tied with twelve daughters each and won a $100 bond. Bartels received the award in Dyersville in a Gazette arranged ceremony.
