Bogus Check Spree Ends in Iowa and Illinois
MOLINE AP A two day $2 500 bogus check spree ended when 21 year old Roger Lingard alias Roger Kent formerly of Le Claire Iowa was arrested while riding in a 1949 model car he bought with one of the five checks issued. Lingard faces confidence game charges and was taken into custody with a 19 year old Moline girl who wore rings bought with Lingard’s checks. An informant led police to the arrest after a Pleasant Valley Iowa gasoline station operator reported Lingard paid a $10 bill with a check. All checks were drawn on the Blue Grass Indiana savings bank. Lingard said he was arrested in 1947 at Clinton on a forgery charge and served 30 days in jail before parole.
