A 70 year old Cedar Rapids gardener, E M Wennerholt of 4106 Mt Vernon Rd SE, was arrested after detectives found about 160 gallons of wine in his home following reports he sold alcohol to high school students. An undercover purchase prompted a search warrant leading to the seizure of seven kegs and a police hold. Wennerholt was released on promise to appear as charges are prepared.
Edwin J. Vacek, 33, of 433 Eighth avenue SW, was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated after an early Sunday accident on Rockford roads southwest of Cedar Rapids. He pled not guilty before Judge H. C. Ring. A 2.35 milligram alcohol reading indicated intoxication. Vacek posted $500 bond after arrest by Deputy Sheriff Harlan Snyder on a district court bench warrant.
