Iowa DOT unveils record 5-year transportation plan
Iowa officials released a $3.2 billion five year plan for 2016 to 2020, the largest in state history, boosted by the first gas tax increase in 25 years. The plan, about 20 percent above the prior year’s $2.7 billion, prioritizes highway infrastructure statewide. Commissioner Amy Reasner of Cedar Rapids notes the historic move will fund extensive road upkeep and growth.

Comment window opens on Iowa DOT five year plan
Iowa DOT invites public input on the five year plan through June 9 with details online and contact Dan Tebben. The plan addresses aviation transit rail and trails and aims to fix a backlog of critical projects funded by a 10 cent gas tax increase approved earlier this year. The tax boosts annual funding to about $215 million, with $501 million under state control allocated mainly to pavement and bridge work and to short term projects.
