Study finds 90 percent of Linn unsuitable for landfill
A preliminary report for Bluestem Solid Waste Agency finds about 90 percent of Linn County unsuitable for a landfill. Potential sites include areas around Bluestem’s County Home Road facility near Highway 13, a section near Highway 30 on the county’s west edge, and two tracts south of Walker. Expansion of Cedar Rapids' southwest landfill is not an option. The two current landfills may be full before year end. The study, prepared by graduate students Lynn Rose, Bill Hefner and Martina John t z of the urban planning program.
