J-Hawk boys win Valley track title
Cedar Rapids Jefferson dominated the Mississippi Valley Conference meet scoring 97.14 points to Kennedy 86, with five individual wins and the 4 x 100 meter relay. Allen Schmitz Cassill and Ben Jenkins won 100 200 and 400, while Pat Carnes won the 400 hurdles and Joel Hachey the 1600. Kennedy swept three relays and Washington had two winners.

Gregg Bosch of Cedar Rapids has been invited to audition for the United States softball squad for the Pan American Games in Caracas Venezuela this August. Auditions in June in Colorado Springs will select four pitchers. Bosch, 32, is Kirkwood Community College athletic director and men's basketball coach and is the lone lefty among 12 invitees.
