Dalziel says Iowa won't join nationwide gas shutdown
Iowa service station operators will not participate in a four day national gas shutdown planned to begin May 17. Dalziel, voice of a Iowa group, cited support from state officials and Gov. Ray. He said talks aim to press Congress for a federal energy review.

China United States trade pact to be initialed in Canton
In Guangxi Canton the United States and China will initial a new trade pact. Commerce Secretary Juanita Kreps said negotiators in Beijing reached a settlement requiring China to pay 80.5 million dollars to Americans whose property was seized after 1949. Li Qiang will join Kreps to ink the agreement at the Canton trade fair site.

Thompson Dies at 91 Former Iowa Supreme Court Justice
G K Thompson known as George King Thompson died Saturday in a local care center at age 91. A native Iowan, he spent over 40 years in public service on county district and state levels, retiring from the Supreme Court in 1965 at 77. Born November 24 1887 near Jamaica Guthrie County he studied at Panora and the University of Iowa earning a law degree in 1914.
