Ubuhle beads exhibit opens at National Czech & Slovak Museum
South African beadwork collective Ubuhle unveils a large beaded mural in the National Czech & Slovak Museum and Library lobby. Co creator Bev Gibson notes the piece spans 23 by 14 feet and uses millions of glass beads imported from the Czech Republic. Ntobela, nicknamed Induna, trained women in beadwork, evolving from borders of linens to monumental murals, with each ndwango taking from a month to a year to complete.
