Rainy spell unlikely to raise flood risk in Eastern Iowa
Eastern Iowa faced sustained rains from Saturday into Sunday but forecasters expect no major flooding in the next week. National Weather Service meteorologist Bill Nichols says rivers may stay high but two inches more rainfall could trigger significant flooding. Local rainfall amounts varied from 1.84 to 3 inches across towns. Mississippi forecast to crest 0.7 feet above major flood stage Wednesday.

Dubuque superintendent weighs two school closures
Dubuque Schools Superintendent John Burgart plans to recommend closing Central Alternative High School and Jones Hand-In-Hand Preschool in June to ease a projected budget deficit of more than 5.5 million dollars. Students would move to Hempstead and Senior high schools, with special education students shifted to area centers and nearby elementary schools. The alternative site would be left empty while the preschool space becomes an auxiliary center for students needing extra help. The change aims to save about 400 thousand dollars.
