Guttenberg plan earns new OK for riverfront center
The Natural Resources Commission approved leasing a former fisheries manager house to Guttenberg at no cost through 2001. The Guttenberg Civic and Commerce Club will convert the two story brick building on River Park Drive into a visitor information center near Lock and Dam No. 10 and the river walk. The center aims to open by Memorial Day weekend with volunteers to staff a porch information area. The house, on the National Register of Historic Places, will retain its historic character while adding accessibility where possible.

U of I Plans Major Westlawn Renovation and Research Building
The University of Iowa will renovate and expand the Westlawn Building this summer, moving student health and other offices there while a new medical research building rises 1998 to 2001. State funds totaling about 27 million from excess gambling profits will aid the project, with total costs rising to about 111.4 million. Construction will disrupt Newton Road traffic and a temporary parking lot will be built to offset access issues as the phase progresses.
