Speedy Speran's 1930 Cedar Rapids pennant team

Paul Speran, new Cedar Rapids manager, piloted a fast, cohesive squad to a one-game league victory over Rock Island in 1930. Starters Kerr and Cervenka fueled a six-run-per-game pace, with Mueller catching and a speedy defense backing a bunt and run style. Speran’s 1931 club fell short but attendance hit a Cedar Rapids high. Speran's career arc and memory end with the 842 Seventeenth Street address and a son’s indifference to baseball.
