Espoir Mukula, 16, is accused of second degree sex abuse for a sex act on a 10-year-old boy while babysitting on April 27. The boy was hospitalized with injuries, and police say Mukula admitted to the acts. the charge is a Class B felony with up to 25 years in prison.
Fire crews responded to a garage fire at 917 Seventh Ave SE early Wednesday near downtown Cedar Rapids. The fire extended to an unoccupied residence, with the front door blocked and entry gained via a back door. The garage was a total loss and the house sustained moderate damage as investigators continue.
Joshua I. Lawson, 34, is charged with assault causing injury after allegedly attacking a security guard during a disturbance at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. He was arrested about 5:20 p.m. Tuesday at 701 10th St. SE and also faces disorderly conduct charges.
Cedar Rapids man Omarr J. Hatcher, 41, is charged with assault causing serious injury after witnesses said he punched a man several times at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City just before 2am Tuesday. He allegedly kicked the victim in the face and rib cage as the man tried to shield himself. It was unclear if they knew each other.
Oskaloosa police officer Janay Pritchett 25 was charged with domestic abuse while displaying a weapon and harassment after she threatened to shoot her girlfriend with an unloaded shotgun and attacked during a dispute at their home. A no contact order was issued and Pritchett was placed on paid leave.
