Iconographer paints sacred Platytera at St. Demetrius Church
Faithful describe Filip Subotic’s blue wall and Platytera icon at St. Demetrius Serbian Orthodox Church in Opely Township Ohio. The artist added frescoes of two angels six prophets and a Shroud of Turin image while the Rev George Mileusnich says Easter joy rises with the frescos. The parish traces roots to 1918 and neighbors about 60 worshippers attend Sundays with 30 children in Sunday school. Subotic, a Belgrade native now in Chicago, blends art and theology creating holy images across the United States.
