Conferees Back Full Truck Use Tax Plan in Iowa
A joint conference committee backed the House version to apply full use tax on all trucks sold in Iowa. The Senate had proposed taxing only trucks 8000 pounds or less and pro rating large trucks by Iowa mileage. Opponents warn the full tax could push Iowa truckers out of state and won’t cut highway mileage. The House will take up the compromise first, then send it to the Senate for likely tough votes.
