Darrell D. Gage 50 of 3119 Kenridge Terrace NE died Sunday after a long illness. A World War II veteran and former rural mail carrier at Fairfax, he lived in Cedar Rapids 12 years and was a member of the National Rural Letter Carriers Assn. and local clubs. Surviving are his wife Marian. his mother Mrs. Sarah Gage. a brother and three sisters. Services Tuesday at Chapel of Memories with burial at Cedar Memorial. military rites by Fairfax American Legion post.

Paris based L Express reports Pope Paul VI has agreed in principle with Hungary to relieve Cardinal Mindszenty as Roman Catholic primate. The 79 year old cardinal would leave the U S embassy where he sought refuge since 1956 and retire quietly after a life sentence for treason. He has refused safe conduct and Hungary bars return to his church post.
Teddy L. Maloney age 20 of rural Central City was fined 161 dollars after pleading guilty to charges from a Sunday high speed chase. A deputy said he pursued Maloney from Springville to a ditch site after passing in a no passing zone. Maloney before Justice Glenn Powers faced four counts including improper passing reckless driving failure to stop for an emergency vehicle and two stop sign violations.
In Cincinnati two men loitering at an adult bookstore were found to be vice squad officers on assignment from the prosecutor's office. The officers did not identify themselves, and the store operator called police. The officer dispatched refused to arrest them as they were on official business.
A caribou stag, nicknamed monarch of the tundra, is noted to stand about 42 feet high at the shoulder and weigh around 375 pounds according to the report.
