Inflation And Hog Prices Driven By Speculation In Pork Futures
Inflation’s effect on hog prices remains uneven. Analysts note fresh pork one third shows little stimulation, while the processed two thirds in lard and cured cuts rise with futures demand. Bulls push cured prices, drawing more hogs into cure and tightening fresh pork supply. Prices outrun grain gains, with traders claiming inflation adds about 75 cents to a dollar per hundredweight. Hog slaughter comparisons rise vs last year, though Iowa producers still sold hogs under $3 per hundredweight recently.

Market notes show cautious hog and corn pricing amid rising costs
The piece discusses aggressive buyers pushing prices higher for corn and hogs. It notes corn has tripled in price while hogs rise about $1.25 per hundredweight, creating uncertainty about market outcomes. Farmers hold back, awaiting further price signals as large winter hog numbers and last springs’ crops fuel current supply.
Eggs sold on graded basis higher by two thirds of a cent
A 1933 survey by W D Termohlen Ames extension specialist finds farmers paid more for graded eggs than straight run eggs. Among 42 county seat towns 26 graded buyers averaged 10.34 cents per dozen, 11 straight run 9.72, and mixed points 9.8. Grading appears to lift prices about 6 to 7 percent.
